#25 Announcement- Policy for the threat of H1N1 diasease

The following is a forwarded message from the President of ETSU. This class would apply what he announced.

------Beginning of message------
During my administration as President of East Tennessee State University, my motto has been and continues to be “Always do the right thing for ETSU students, ETSU faculty, and ETSU staff.” In the event of widespread illness among the ETSU Campus Community from the flu virus, I want to make you aware of my expectations of what it means to “do the right thing”:

1. Encourage anyone experiencing flu related symptoms to stay home. Symptoms include fever, lethargy, lack of appetite, and coughing. Some people with swine flu also have reported runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

2. Make provisions for our students to make up their work because many may be absent 7-8 days.

3. Be flexible with our attendance policies during this unusual time.

4. Don’t require a doctor’s excuse. Health care providers will not have time, and many people affected by the virus will not seek professional medical intervention unless they are extremely ill.

5. All departmental and unit authorities should make sure that this information reaches all ETSU employees especially adjunct faculty, teaching assistants, and part-time temporary employees.
