1.What do you think that cause these two biological communities so differently?
2.Is plant productivity higher in species-rich ecosystems? Why?
3. Does species richness enhance the sustainability of an ecosystem? why?

ReplyDelete1. The climate and geographical location
2. Yes, because the more diverse an ecosystem is, the more productive it will be.
3. Yes, because the greater the species richness amd the web of feeding interactions, the greater its sustainability. It responds better to environmental stress because of its many different species.
1) The reason that the communities are so different is because the animals they have access to. The coral reef is in the ocean, and there is a lot of biodiversity.
ReplyDelete2) Plant productivity is higher in species-rich ecosystems because if there are more species, than the plants can serve more animals and more purposes.
3) Species richness can enhance sustainability and be a hinderance in sustainability. It can enhance it because there are many differnt functions served by a variety of species. However it can also harm it because there can be competition amongst the organisms for resources.

ReplyDelete1)Climate and location/environment
2)The more species there are in an ecosystem the higher the plant productivity must be to sustain that much variety of life.
3) Yes, because each species adds something to its environment.
Mollie Roberts and Matt Walter
ReplyDelete1) One reason is because the ecosystems are different. The coral reef is a marine environment while the trees in Canada are a land environment.
2) Yes, because with all the different species in an environment there is a larger food web, so they are not just eating the plants. The species could be omnivores.
3) Yes, because there is so much diversity of species.

ReplyDelete1.What do you think that cause these two biological communities so differently?
The enviornment, the climate, and the difference of organisms that live in each community.
2.Is plant productivity higher in species-rich ecosystems? Why?
Yes, each different animal has a job they do for each enviorment. Each animal does different things. If you had an enviornment with just one species, then the only type of plants that would be productive would be the ones that particular animal helps and utilizes. Therefore, the more different types of species that are present, the more different plants that could be productive.
3. Does species richness enhance the sustainability of an ecosystem? why?
Yes, everybody helps each other in a species. Everything plays a different role in the ecosystem, but they are all interconnected. Therefore species richness is going to aide plant productivity then the sustainability of that enviornment is going to be great.
Elizabeth Rhymer & Tonya Crum
ReplyDelete1. The two biological communities are different because the coral reef is located under water and Albert, Canada is in the forest biome. Both locations offer a different envirionment which alters the life in that community.
2. Yes, plant productivity is higher in species rich ecosystems because they offer more nutrients needed for productive growth.
3.Yes, because it continues to supply the demand for nutrients to allow the continuation of the ecosystem. Without the supply, it would gradually diminish.
Ashley Perkins and Eva Swatzell
ReplyDelete1. The environment dictates the biological community; the coral reef can adapt to allow for other species, while in Canada, the climate cannot be altered to allow for other species to inhabit that area.
2. Plant productivity is higher in species-rich ecosystems because producers and consumers have a give and take relationship. Producers feed the consumers, while consumers produce CO2 for the plants to reproduce.
3. Species richness does enhance the sustainability of an ecosystem; with more species inhabiting that ecosystem, the longer the ecosystem can maintain its' various processes.
Whitney Cogburn and Denise Davis
ReplyDelete1. The species diversity of communities varies with their geographical location. Like the coral reef has lots of different species but not very many of the same species within it, unlike in Canada there are lots of the same species within.
2. Yes, because the more diverse an ecosystem is, the more productive it will be. With a greather variety of producer species, an ecosystem will produce more plant biomass, which in turn will support a greater variety of consumer species.
3. Yes, the greater the species richness and the accompanying web of feeding and biotic interactions in an ecosystem, the greater its sustainability, or ability to withstand environmental disturbances such as drought or insect infestation.
Amy Byington and James Hensley
ReplyDelete1. The coral reef is in a marine climate while the trees in Canada are in a dry cold climate.
2. Yes, plant productivity is higher in species-rich ecosystems because of diversity in the enviroment.
3. Yes, the more diverse the more animals and species

ReplyDelete1. The geolocial make up of the environment and the location such as the coral reef being under the water.
2. The diversity has an effect on the productivity because it is higher with having more and different species.
3. The greater the richness the higher the sustainability because it responds to evironmental problems due to the diversity of species.
Michelle Policastro Alex Honkonen
ReplyDeleteThe community of coral reef and the community in Canada differ becasue they have different environmental surroundings which adapt to different organisms. An organism that lives in the coral reef could not survive in Canada.
2. Plant productivity is higher in a species-rich ecosystem becasue the more species that live in the ecosystem, the more plants are needed.
3. Species richness increases the productivity and austainability of an ecosystem. The food web is larger providing more nutrients to species.
1. The two biological communities are different because one is an aquatic environment specifically a coral reef which supports a large number of different species. The other is a terrestrial environment which is less diverse and is dominated by one species.
ReplyDelete2. Plant productivity is higher is species rich environments because each species is dependent on different qualities within the given environment. For instance, some plants prefer it shady while others prefer full sun. The more diversity within the environment the higher the likelihood that each plant can find its own little niche.
3. Species richness enhances the sustainability of an ecosystem because the system as a whole is better able to adapt to changes in the environment. If the ecosystem were to suddenly become drier, species that prefer dry conditions would thrive. As a plant grows that likes dry conditions it creates shade that different plants like. Evidence of the dangers of single species environments are found in modern monoculture farming. One dry season for a crop that thrives on water can wipe out the entire crop.
